How to Sign for an Exam Form Signature (and Upload It)
By the PixFit team, BNM Services · Updated
Sign in black ink on plain white paper, larger than you need, photograph it flat in daylight, then crop, clean and resize it to the exam's pixels and KB range.
The signature upload looks simple, yet it is the second most common reason forms get stuck. Portals want a small JPG, often only 10–20 KB, of a signature that is clear, dark and on a white background. Here is how to make one in a few minutes with just a pen, paper and your phone.
What you need
- A black ball pen (dark blue is accepted by most exams; IBPS asks for black). Avoid pencil, gel pens that smudge, and felt pens that bleed.
- Plain white A4 paper, with no lines, no grid and nothing showing through from the back.
- Daylight from a window, and a flat table.
Step by step
- Sign the way you will sign on exam day. The invigilator compares this image with your signature on the attendance sheet. Do not use capital letters or a different style unless you always sign that way.
- Sign larger than the box. Make it about 6–8 cm wide. Shrinking a large signature keeps it crisp; enlarging a tiny one makes it blurry.
- Photograph it flat. Hold the phone straight above the paper, not at an angle, so the signature is not stretched. Avoid your own shadow over the page.
- Crop close. Leave a small margin around the ink. Too much white space makes the signature look tiny in the form.
- Clean the background. Phone photos of white paper come out grey or yellow. A clean-up that whitens the paper and darkens the ink makes the signature readable and also makes the file smaller.
- Resize to the exam’s numbers. Typical sizes: IBPS and SBI 140 × 60 px at 10–20 KB, SSC 315 × 157 px at 10–20 KB (4.0 × 2.0 cm), NTA exams 300 × 120 px at 4–30 KB.
PixFit’s signature resizer and exam pages such as IBPS signature do steps 4 to 6 in the browser: the signature never leaves your phone.
Common mistakes
- Signing in capital letters when the form says “signature in capitals not accepted” (IBPS and SBI say this).
- Signature on lined or coloured paper: the lines survive compression and look like scribbles.
- A digital signature drawn with a finger: it rarely matches your pen signature; most exams want a pen signature on paper.
- Uploading the photo instead of the signature, or the other way round. It happens more than you would think when files are named IMG_2041.jpg. Name your files clearly.
Thumb impression and declaration
Bank exams also ask for a left thumb impression (blue or black ink pad on white paper, 240 × 240 px, 20–50 KB for IBPS) and a handwritten declaration (800 × 400 px, 50–100 KB). The same rules apply: dark ink, white paper, a flat photo, then resize. See the IBPS page for every document.
